Built in Costa Mesa, California all Freeports were built to order. When you purchased a Freeport from the Islander Corporation they hand made the boat according to the buyer’s specifications. These where the highest end American boats built at the time and the buyers were usually movie stars, musicians, or other high profile people.
All the Islander Freeports have a slightly different interior layout and the Santa Maria has the best we have ever seen. The normally vinyl headliner was replaced with teak planking covering the entire interior. You will have trouble finding a more finely fitted yacht anywhere. In 2006 the exterior was completely redone with fresh awlgrip giving the boat a nearly new finish.

What a treat! We ended up last minute deciding to do the tour. We got to the dock and it ended up being just the 3 of us and the 2 crew members, Mike, and Captain Dave. They were very kind, friendly, knowledgeable and a lot of fun. Even if it hadn't ended up being a private tour, it still would have been a blast. Would definitely recommend sailing with them!

My wife and I came to San Francisco to celebrate our anniversary, and I wanted to treat her to something I knew she’d love and looked for a sailing outfit to take us out on the Bay. I stumbled upon this group and booked the Saturday morning sail under the Golden Gate Bridge. We were shocked that on the day of the sail it was just us! No other passengers and we ended up having our own private morning sail! It was so peaceful listening to the sounds of the sea, talking beautiful pictures and drinking mimosas. Most of the trip was by wind power, and a nice leisurely pace. The boat, the Journey, was in great shape and captained by a smart and nice two man team. Definitely recommend.
